Frequently asked questions from the doctoral student

Q - May I start the doctoral program in the winter semester?

It is possible, but each case must be evaluated according to the candidates university or professional career.

Q - Do you offer a part-time program?

Yes.

Q - Do I have to chose a research supervisor when I apply?

No. In general, admitted students have the first semester to reflect on their needs for supervision and to make their choice. In case of difficulty, they may obtain support from the program's administrator.

Q - I have a job and/or I don't live in Montreal. Is it possible to pursue my studies while being free only one day per week?

Yes. To accommodate the maximum number of doctoral researchers, the doctoral seminaries are generally concentrated in a single day per week, in the fall and winter semesters.

Q - Why apply to an interdisciplinary doctoral program?

This program allows one to ask questions which cannot be asked by a single discipline; it thereby offers greater scientific freedom of expression and greater mobility.

Q - I am a long-standing professional practitioner and I would like to equip myself with additional training. Can my years of experience be considered an asset?

Certainly. A good number of candidates enrolled in the program are experienced practitioners and their presence is one the most valuable assets of this distinctive and plural university community stemming from a multitude of national and disciplinary horizons, and whose average age is higher than in other programs.
